Gilbert Sedeño – Piano
Gilbert Sedeño has been working in Houston since 1977 after moving from Los Angeles. He is a pianist, composer, arranger and producer and has performed with numerous bands, bringing a fluency in such diverse styles as jazz, latin, R&B, pop rock, salsa, country and Broadway. Mr. Sedeño studied at Angelo State University, North Texas State University, and the Dick Grove Music Workshop in LA, Calif. He has performed at the Houston International Festival, Birmingham Jazz Festival, Norman OK Jazz Festival and the Corpus Christi Jazz Festival.
Mr. Sedeño has been affiliated with Jazz Education Inc. since 1982 and performs with the Jazz and Poetry Ensemble. He was a staff instructor in the Summer Jazz Workshop for 18 years. Mr. Sedeño was the Piano Jazz Consultant at the High School For The Performing And Visual Arts (1995-1999). He left that position to tour with Steve Tyrell for over three years. Mr. Sedeño then continued touring with Ray Price, serving as his music director for the next seven and a half years while performing in forty eight states, including venues like the Kennedy Center in DC, Radio City Music Hall in NY, Country Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Mr. Sedeño has been a member of the AFM Local 65-699 since 1977 and has served on the board since 1999. He is the fourteenth recipient to be awarded the 2012 Kemah Boardwalk Lifetime Jazz Achievement Award and continues performing in the area with Houston’s finest.
